Convince me to buy in.

In the Space Project, you and your partners have helped to colonize a new environment somewhere in space. Now that you have built your new colony, it's time to bring new citizens in! So convince us!!!

Over the years, the Space Project has taken on many life forms of its own, asking kids to create documentaries, infomercials, and their own websites to "sell" their colony. At its core, the Space Project is an interdisciplenary project that engages students in each core curriculum on a deeper level. Through each core content area, students explore new and engaging ideas that stimulate their learning of what it takes to become better entrapenuers.

In Social Studies: students decide and develop their own government, based on their research and class discussions of other governments around the world [NCES 6.C & G.1].

In Math: students will express their scientific research through the utilization of math and data graphics, including charts, plot lines, and pie graphs [CCSS.Math.Content.6.SP.B.4-5]

In Language Arts: students concoct essays, pamphlets, and layouts that help to justify to their target audience some of the major factors and decisions of their colonies [CCSS ELA-Literacy.RH.6-8.3]

In Science: students research different areas of space and decide upon as a group which location in space they want to colonize. Students must justify their choice and express through scientific data decisions realted to their colony [NCES 6.E.1]

In Core Connections: student combine all information into one cohesive documentation, building a website that is fascinating and captivating to their audiences. Students will discuss and understand the purpose of "public displays" and how to "capture an audience", learning that fun designs might not always be the most effective.
